adam swayneAs we approach the end of 2019, one of our recently qualified solicitors, Adam Swayne, reflects back at the conclusion of his 2-year traineeship with Murray Beith Murray, and recommends the firm to anyone considering a legal career.

‘Fulfilling my traineeship at one of Scotland’s oldest private client law firms has been a fantastic experience. Two years after I first stepped through the doors of Murray Beith Murray, I am a fully qualified solicitor within its Asset Protection Group, an integral part of a friendly and responsive team and immersed in a highly rewarding career.

My journey as a trainee was one of many surprises. Murray Beith Murray have looked after me well. Contrary to popular belief about traineeships, I did not spend my days photocopying files or fetching coffee, nor was I a faceless component in the corporate machine. Rather, I was immediately exposed to many different types of work, an array of interesting clients and enjoyed the excitement and rush of adrenalin when a settlement was made or deal completed.

As a trainee I was most excited about working in the Asset Protection Group. This was the area where I wanted to grow my expertise. Being in a position to advise diverse clients, getting to know their particular circumstances and helping them find the most appropriate solution to their queries has been immensely rewarding. I have been involved in a wide range of matters, from drafting complicated Wills incorporating a number of different Trust structures, to advising clients on tax and estate planning, to setting up registered charities.

But it is not all work and no play! We also have an active Entertainment Committee and Baking Club within the firm. I’m certainly no Mary Berry, but the weekly bakes are always a highlight in the office.

I would highly recommend Murray Beith Murray to anyone considering their traineeship. Old does not mean dry. The firm has given me an ever increasing degree of responsibility and challenging work and the trust and support I needed to develop as a solicitor.’
