Five partners at Edinburgh law firm Murray Beith Murray LLP have been recognised in a major global private wealth legal ranking.

The firm has been included in the Chambers High Net Worth 2026 rankings, which highlight leading private wealth lawyers and firms around the world.

Chairman Andrew Paterson was among five partners recognised, alongside Peter Shand, Alec Stewart, Sophie Napier and Fraser Scott.

Murray Beith Murray was also named as a leading private wealth law firm in the latest rankings.

The recognition comes during a period of growth for the firm, which recently launched a refreshed brand identity, a new website and the Andrew Murray Signature Prize, an essay competition for law students across Scotland.

Founded in 1849, Murray Beith Murray became a limited liability partnership in 2024 and continues to advise high net worth clients on private wealth matters.

The firm will celebrate its recent achievements at a reception at the Signet Library in Edinburgh this September, where the winner of the essay competition will also be announced.

Murray Beith Murray has historic links to Edinburgh’s 39 Castle Street, where Sir Walter Scott wrote several of his Waverley novels between 1802 and 1826.

The firm later relocated to 3 Glenfinlas Street in 2009.

In the Chambers rankings, Murray Beith Murray was named a Band 2 firm for Private Wealth Law.

Andrew Paterson and Peter Shand were ranked in Band 3, Alec Stewart was placed in Band 4, while Sophie Napier and Fraser Scott were recognised in the Up and Coming category.

Andrew Paterson said: “We are delighted to secure this level of recognition in the Chambers High Net Worth 2026 rankings, which is testament to the dedication we show our clients and the standards we set for ourselves.

“Murray Beith Murray has long been known as a trusted adviser of high net worth clients, and our reputation is going from strength to strength following a series of targeted investments and strategic hires.

“It has already been a summer to remember for our firm, following the launch of our new logo, a refreshed website and the inaugural edition of the Andrew Murray Signature Prize.

“Our success in these rankings is the icing on the cake.”
