A signature moment

Evolving Murray Beith Murray’s identity while honouring 175 years of trust

In legal practice, a signature matters.

It is the point where advice becomes commitment, where judgement is trusted, and where responsibility is accepted.

For Murray Beith Murray, trust, responsibility and commitment sit at the centre of not only our work but our history, dating to 1849 when Andrew Murray joined with Donald Beith to establish the firm in Edinburgh.

That is why a signature is the inspiration behind our newly evolved identity.

Rather than adopting a purely abstract or corporate mark, we chose to refresh our brand in a way that reflects human judgement and personal service.

At the heart of the new identity is a hand-drawn ‘M’, derived from the original specimen signature of Andrew Murray and held in the archives of the Society of Writers to the Signet. It is enclosed within a simple circle, allowing flexibility across media while giving the mark presence and clarity.

As we mark more than 175 years since the firm’s founding in 1849, this moment represents not a change of direction, but a reaffirmation of who we are.

Built on continuity

Few organisations have the privilege of advising generation after generation of the same families. Over nearly two centuries, Murray Beith Murray has supported clients through lives that have become more complex, more international and more regulated — yet still deeply personal.

For much of our history, the firm worked from 39 Castle Street, a building long embedded in Edinburgh’s cultural story and formerly home to Sir Walter Scott.

We moved to purpose-built premises at Glenfinlas Street in 2009, but the values forged during those years continue to shape how we practise today.

A modern structure, the same ethos

Recent years have seen significant but deliberate evolution. Our transition to Murray Beith Murray LLP and our decision to publish financial information for the first time reflect a commitment to transparency, strong governance and long-term continuity. These steps were taken to future-proof the firm while remaining independent and owner-managed.

We continue to grow thoughtfully, invest in our people and infrastructure, and maintain a practice that is partner-led and relationship-driven. In a profession that can increasingly feel transactional, we believe that approach matters more than ever.

Looking ahead

Our evolved brand arrives at a moment of confidence for the firm — but also one of responsibility.

Families today face increasingly complex decisions around succession, asset protection, taxation and governance, often across jurisdictions. Technology may assist, but it cannot replace insight, experience or trust.

Murray Beith Murray’s refreshed image reflects a firm that is assured in its purpose, respectful of its heritage and firmly focused on the future.
