Planning for Retirement
Through research carried out by Murray Beith Murray within the 30 to 65 years age bracket, we have found that many of those we spoke to had prepared for retirement to some extent, but their plans are not complete, nor reviewed at regular intervals. It seems that Planning for Retirement is something that many of us put to the back of our minds and it is only when we are close to retiring that we sit up and pay attention to the detail.
Finance is one of the key considerations influencing any change of lifestyle on reaching retirement age. Children may have left home and started independent lives and a new source of income is required to replace the old. It is never too early to start planning for this stage in life and identifying where this income will come from. It may also be necessary to look at assets and liabilities and
perhaps restructuring these in order to provide the most effective means of attaining financial goals.
As well as financial planning, there are various other important issues to consider. These include organising your affairs so as to minimise Inheritance Tax, making sure your personal assets are protected and ultimately passed on to those you wish to own them and also planning for long-term care arrangements.
